Poem

For I-Chun: a Memoriam

As though it was all yesterday

Your words, ringing with bashful sweetness

In my ears

Words that telling me, there will be days, there will be days

For those things we will be busy with, together.

For that spring of ours, forever imprinted in this picture

Silence is a better way to seal

Our hearts in the chords of empathy.

Indeed, the long days of wandering should be over

Home is sweet, and you are yearning for it.

But I never say, I never say

You could leave just like that

And farewell forever.

That night, the beeper’s sound was pressing

vigilant, and the news a disquieting enigma.

A missing character on the screen

What is it? What is it?

What is that word, and who would have to bear with it.

Today is the time to look back.

To remember your smiles, to remember

a real Knight who has just passed this world.

And who has impressed it with the force of his life

his persevering power and angelic wings.

Now you are remembered in the hearts of men

Now you are in the arms of our loving Father of all.

So farewell, I-Chun

For the roads you have traversed that must be traversed

For the things you have done that must be done

For the world

will keep to its heart the long and winding journey of your days.

I could never make me believe it is true, and it is possible at all. Such talents, such humor and such kindness. Like a bolt from the blue, you have left us so suddenly! But you would forever have a place in our hearts, which are already broken by your departure.
---Zong Wuyu

Dear and beloved teacher: you are so talented and humorous. I feel so sad for your untimely departure! I would forever remember and cherish you in my heart, take care and farewell.
---Xiao Rongbi

I-Chun: When Ah Kai and I have returned from our honeymoon in Bali, we came to know that you passed away on Sept. 9th. Our happy and buoyant spirits were frozen into shock and sadness; we still could not believe that you would leave this world in this way. But we still feel your existence among us all the time, as though you have never leave us behind.
---Ah Fang

I-Chun has gone forever! Is it true? This is too shocking, this is impossible, this is too much for me! This is what life means…like a dream??
---Ah Kai

Now, I am totally overwhelmed by heart-beading feelings. Since I really could not make myself believe that all this is real. I have lost a close friend who would have worked all his life together with me for the education of deaf students. Our dreams and our plans are all in pieces now. But that is not important, I only hate myself not to be able to save him, and let him leave us forever so early and so suddenly. Farewell, my friend and my companion. God has better plans for him, and we wish him well and happy in Heaven.
