It was formed in Sepember 1977 and retained Prof. Chi-Mei Wang to
be the instructor and director. In May 1978, they had debut in Taipei and
earned very good appraisal. In March 1979, their second performance was
held at National Art Museum; in Octover 1982, they were invited to perform
in the Cultural and Art Festival sponsored by the Executive Yuan; in October
1984, they had their fourth performance at National Art Museum. Since then,
they have been invited to different institution to perform for many times. The course is held by season and designed for beginners, moderates and
advanced learners respectively. Until now, there have been more than 200
classes and 5000 students in this course. The club maintains and enhances the members' friendship by means of
various activities, such as camping, B.B.Q., travel, party, playing Chinese
chess, and so on. The interpreter trained by this course were recommended to work for public
and private companies or institutions. The course was listed as a part of
the 1995 disable welfare program of the Ministry of Interior. The course contains reading, mathematics, social science, and natural
science. The purpose is to assist government to reduce illiterate, to extend
people's knowledge and to remove the communication barriers. It is designed to strengthen the relationship between deaf parents and
their children and to provide the deaf the re-education opportunity. Such
activity had been held twice: in 1992 and 1993. We hope the public could understand and appreciate the talent of the deaf,
and then offer them jobs. The art works created by the deaf include oil
painting, ceramics, photograph and design. The exhibition has been held
twice: in 1993 and 1994. In May 9, 1993, the Mother's Day, a food fair named "Say Thank You to
Mom By Sign Language" was held to demonstrate various talents of the deaf
to the public.
