WORK EXPERIENCE
- Grader/Tutor, September 1995, November 1995
Information Technology Department, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY.
Helped professors tutor and grade FORTRAN 77 programs on mainframes.
- Lecturer, June 1994 - August 1994
Taipei Association for the Deaf, Taipei, Taiwan.
Taught college-level deaf students American Sign Language (ASL) and English classes.
- Computer Programmer, June 1992 - August 1993
Center for Devices and Radiological Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, MD.
Modified existing in-house programs for color graphic display and rewrote several utilities for an IBM 486 computer using Microsoft C version 5.0. Modified in-house programs to scale graphs correctly on HP 200 BASIC PC computer. Used Amiga 3000 computer with Video Toaster to produce video presentations for laboratory evaluations of medical devices. Helped put together Amiga multi-media system, created draft scripts, generated titles, and used Video Toaster for multi-media presentation.

Hobbs Computer Center, Model Secondary School for the Deaf, Washington, DC.
Maintained computers, printers and other peripherals. Assisted students in resoloving software and programming problems on IBM PCs and compatibles.
- Computer Technician, October 1990 - August 1991
American Association for the Advancement of Science, Washington, DC.
Assisted office users in resolving hardware and software problems on IBM PCs and compatibles. Assisted with the installation and management of Novell - PC LAN in office environment.
- Computer Programmer, May - August 1990
Center for Devices and Radiological Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, MD.
Modified existing in-house programs to scale graphs correctly on an HP 200 BASIC PC computer. Modified FORTRAN 77 programs on HP mainframe to run under Microsoft FORTRAN on IBM PCs. Extensive FORTRAN programming and user documentation were required.
- Computer Programmer, May - August 1989
Center for Devices and Radiological Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, MD.
Maintained in-house software library database system on an HP 1000 mainframe. Modified existing programs and designed new programs for database interface and retrieval using FORTRAN 77.

Computer Services, Gallaudet University, Washington,DC.
Assisted campus users in resolving hardware and software problems on IBM and VAX 6500 terminals. Assisted with the installation of new workstations in various campus locations.
PROJECTS:
- Multimedia Master's Thesis Project: "Building a Practical Sign Language (PSL) System in a Multimedia Environment: PSL for American Sign Language (ASL)," September 1995 - February 1996.
Developed an interactive multimedia system for computer-aided instruction for deaf education. The project is based on interactive hypermedia techniques. The PSL system is an intelligent multimedia system for deaf, hearing-impaired and hearing users, designed to assist them in acquiring and developing ASL skills. The system provides the following functionalities: American Sign Language Overview, Fingerspelling Guide, Vocabulary, and Vocabulary Lookup. The system uses HyperCard 2.3 (with QuickTime system extension), Adobe Photoshop 3.0, video recording hardware (Adobe Premiere 4.0 and ScreenPlay), and Chinese language kit (Painter and Ulead ImagePals).
- World Wide Web Project: "WWW Access for CAROL (Culture and Arts of Rochester Online)," March - May, 1996.
Developed and maintained a WWW site for Genesse Country Museum for the CAROL project, an on-line cooperative formed to promote regional cultural activities.
- Multimedia Project: "A Multimedia Tour of Yosemite National Park," December 1995 - May 1996.
Designed a multimedia tour of Yosemite using Macromedia Director. The system consists of a main menu and an information section about the park. The multimedia presentations including interactive animation, still color images, digitized audio and video clips, were used to stimulate and maintain user's interest during the tour.
- Database Project: "DBMS for NTID," September 1994 - November 1994.
Designed a relational SQL database that provides information for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) Applied Computer Technology (ACT) Deparatment, whose instructors teach various computer-related courses. The database provides information about department resource.
- Neural Network Project: "Using Kohonen's Self-Organizing Map (SOM) for
Classifying Electronic Brainstorming (EBS) Output," December 1993 - February 1994.
Developed a program based on Kohonen's feature map to classify textual EBS outputs. The program analyzed indexes assigned to EBS comments to generate an abstraction of related and important concepts embedded in the comments. The program was written in C and tested using actual EBS session outputs on Sparc workstations.
- Computer Graphics Project: "A Graphical Driving Simulation," September 1993 - November 1993.
Implemented projection and display of 3-D object to be seen while drive along a straight road. The program, written in C, displayed graphics in X Windows on Sun Spare workstation. The program computes coordinates and projects the results on the screen under simulated driving conditions.
